The England midfielder Needs to Eliminate the Nonsense to Reclaim a Central Role Under Manager Thomas Tuchel.

Should Bellingham wants to earn his place once again into the English strongest team, the smart move to cut out the unnecessary reactions. His reaction after noticing that the substitute board was being shown after an evening of mixed performance in Tirana was unacceptable.

"I don’t want to make more out of it but I hold to my words 'conduct is crucial' and respect towards the squad members who substitute on," commented the coach. "Choices are taken and you need to comply being a professional."

There is a lesson for Bellingham. There was no need for a strop. Kane had only moments earlier made it the national team 2-0 up in a meaningless match, with only six minutes remaining and Bellingham, who had not played particularly well, was just shown a yellow for a foul on the Albanian striker. This could scarcely be called a debatable decision. Actually it might have been reckless for the head coach to leave Bellingham on because there was a risk he would make himself ineligible of the first match of the tournament by getting a second caution.

Shifting Focus to Himself

Yet Bellingham turned the spotlight on himself. No one could overlook the 22-year-old’s disappointment when he clocked that he would be substituted for a teammate. His arms went up in exasperation and even though he shook Tuchel’s hand after making his way to the touchline it was obvious that the manager was not impressed.

This is the challenge for Bellingham. He applauded Rashford for delivering the cross for Kane to nod home his second of the night, but everything else was counterproductive. There was no chance protesting was going to change Tuchel’s mind. The coach has repeatedly emphasized respecting team hierarchies and the value of behaving correctly.

Facing Examination

Bellingham, not included in the previous squad, has been under scrutiny after returning to the fold in the current camp. In effect he has been on trial and he hasn't helped his case by reacting to being taken off as England rounded off a ideal group stage by defeating a feisty challenge from the Albanian team.

The Coach's Plan

It means opinions are divided on whether the squad function at their best when Bellingham plays. The performance was inconclusive. Tuchel tried new things by the coach at the start. He has provided the team a clear system lately, using a holding player, a box-to-box player, a playmaker and specialist wingers, but there was a different feel versus Albania. Jarell Quansah was made his England debut, Wharton made his first start internationally and the role of Stones as a part-time midfielder gave a passing resemblance to the Manchester club's historic treble-winning side.

Inconsistent Display

Bellingham was a mixed bag. He set up a shot for his teammate after the break but often looked too desperate to impress. There were a lot of poorly executed passes. There was a needless bit of aggro against an opponent at the beginning. England were ragged during most of the second period. One Albania chance resulted from he lost the ball cheaply. The yellow card was shown after he lost the ball from Broja and committed a foul on Broja.

Squad Strength Shows

Ultimately the squad's strength proved crucial. Tuchel introduced Phil Foden, who seemed more naturally fitted to the spot that Bellingham had played in the opening period, and Bukayo Saka. Eventually Saka whipped in a set-piece for the captain to score the first goal. It was a reminder that dead-ball situations are going to be vital at the World Cup.

Bridge Still Stands

However, the focus was on Bellingham. The quality of Rashford's cross for Kane's goal was somewhat overlooked due to the fuss of the Rogers substitution. When the match concluded, everyone was watching Bellingham. Tuchel walked up to his side and pushed the Real Madrid midfielder to acknowledge the English fans. Their relationship is not damaged. The coach isn't ready to give up on the player just yet. However, whether he is willing to give him a starring role remains in doubt.
